The Board has with great enthusiasm committed to undertaking 4 new projects over the next 12 -18 months. These projects are - Industry Training Liaison Strategy - Workforce Development Promotion - Disability Sector Workforce Development - and the holding of an Annual Conference and Awards Presentation. We will be advertising shortly for project officers to fulfill these roles.

The Skills Board is also creating a register of contractors/ consultants to undertake activities that the Board will offer for tender from time to time. A number of these are coming up in the Mental Health project so if you are interested contact us on info@sahcssb.com.au to advice of you interest.

As we are growing we are also moving offices to 100 Wright Street, Adelaide. We may have some disruption to services during early May. I hope you will will be tolerant of any difficulties this may cause. Greg, Diana & Jacky will share the same frustration but will be doing their best during the move to help with your needs.

The CS&H ISC Health Training package implimentation sessions have been held over the previous months and more are to be held in June. I hope you can take advantage of them.

Skills Board on the Move
With the need to expand to undertake a number of new projects the Skills Board has moved to new premises at 100 Wright Street, Adelaide (next door to Ramsay Medical Books). Whilst we will miss the networking that our Kent Town offices provided we hope that being in the City will enhance our industry contacts.

Our phone contact details remain the same - General 8362 9311 Projects 8362 3220. Unfortunately our computer systems will be down for a few days and we apologise for the inconvenience.

Are you a Consultant?
The Skills Board from time to time contracts out aspects of its project activity and are creating a register of consultant. If you can provide project management, technical writing, event management, training, IT services, design, marketing, consultations etc and would like to be on the register please contact us at info@sahcssb.com.au or call Greg on 8362 9311

Conference & Awards
The Board has committed to reviving the highly valued Health & Community Services Conference and is initiating the Health & Community Services Workforce Development Awards. It is hoped these will become annual events for industry to gather, exchange ideas, discovery new practices, network and celebrate the achievements of the sector. We are keen to hear your thoughts and hope to release more details in the near future.

New Projects
The Skills Board is about to commence two new Board initiated projects- the Industry Training Liaison Strategy and Workforce Development Promotion, as well as the Disability Sector Workforce Development project supported by the DFEEST Workforce Development Fund.

The Industry Training Liaison Strategy is a project that will promote the uptake of the HLT07 Health training package, support industry participation in the Community Services training package review and explore the development of an on-line professional development calendar.

The Workforce Development Promotion has two aspects - the continued development of an on-line workforce development resource and the holding of a series of workshops / forums to promote workforce development to industry.

The Disability Workforce Development project aims to work with the non government disability service providers to undertake leadership and management, connect the service providers to RTOs, promote the uptake of traineeships and to promote industry best practice.

The Board will soon be advertising for Project Officers to manage these projects.

Youth Workers
The Youth Workers Workforce Development Project Final Report has been completed by YACSA and approved by the Board.

The project sought to identify specific initiatives for the retention of new youth workers and to improve the transition from training to work. Whilst it was anticipated that this would result in the development of resources & training for youth workers, industry consultation however, revealed that resources & training for managers on how to best support youth workers is more significant to the retention of new youth workers.

The final report will be a available from our web site next week. This project was supported by the SA Government through the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science & Technology, SA Works, Workforce Development Fund.
