Community Services & Health Industry Skills Council - 2010 Environmental Scan 

The Environmental Scan assists in identifying existing and emerging skill demand and supply factors and workforce development requirements in the community services and health industries across Australia.

To contribute to the Scan, please complete the online survey accessible through the
project webpage.  The consultation period for stakeholders closes on 27 January 2010.

Copies of the 2009 Environmental Scan are also available.

Allied Health Assistants in South Australia

Late last year the Skills Board launched a new website promoting the work of Allied Health Assistants and providing resources to support the development of this workforce.  The website is one of the activities of the Allied Health Workforce Reform Project and can be found at www.aha-sa.asn.au

Productivity Places Program

The first round of applications for funding through the Enterprise Based Productivity Places Program being managed by Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council closes on 5 February 2010.  Round 2 will close on 7 May 2010.

Funding rounds for the job seeker and existing worker programs managed in South Australia will be announced later in 2010.  Watch the

Workshop: Work Effectively with Therapy Assistants on Thursday, 25th February 2010 from 1pm - 4.30pm at Next Generation Memorial Drive

This course will provide some practical guidelines and resources to assist with therapy assistant position design.  Additionally, it will cover models of service delivery and strategies for working effectively with therapy assistants across a range of workplace settings.

Who should attend?
Anyone in a supervisory position who is interested in working more effectively with therapy assistants, or wants to create new therapy assistant positions, or is recruiting for therapy assistant positions.

Who will be the Facilitator?
The course will be delivered by Sue Steele-Smith, BApScience (Occupational Therapy), Master of Health Science Education.  Sue is an experienced practitioner and educator who is currently working as an Education Consultant at the Royal Rehabilitation College, NSW.

What will I learn?
- How to design new therapy assistant positions
- How to design a model of service delivery, that is appropriate to your workplace
- Understand therapy assistant roles
- How to work effectively with therapy assistants
- How the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance can help
- How other therapists work with assistants.

Fee: $125 including a course manual and afternoon tea.

 Workshop: SKilling up the Workforce: Practical Skills for Managers: Job Design

The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council is offering a free one-day workshop on job design for managers of employees providing direct care services.  The workshop will be held in Adelaide on Tuesday 30th March 2010.  More information is available from the project website.

 Training and Skills Commission's (TaSC) Skills for Jobs Report

Skills for Job: Priorities for Developing South Australia's Workforce was published in December 2009.

The plan analyses skills needs and makes recommendations for change to the State's education and training system.  The Plan, and industry-specific appendices, are available from the Commissioner's
website.
