Consultation on recognition of VET in SACE
The SACE Board of South Australia is undertaking consultation on the recognition arrangements for Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the new SACE. A consultation paper is available, and a series of forums are being held in early June. Feedback can also be provided online.

$1.6million for Country Health SA Scholarships
The Government of South Australia has awarded 51 students from rural and regional South Australia scholarships valued at $1.6million to study medicine and health related subjects.

SA Works Strategic Review
A review of South Australia Works' strategic policy objectives has been initiated by the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology. A high level Reference Group and a cross sectoral Working Group has been established to support the Review. The Department is currently seeking input on the relevant policy and program developments for consideration by the consultant, Michael O'Neil from the SA Centre for Economic Studies in shaping future strategic directions of South Australia Works. Productivity Places Program
The first round of 2009 funding for the Productivity Places Program for Job Seekers in South Australia is now complete. 2,748 qualifications will be funded, with the health and community services receiving funding for 600 qualifications from Certificate II to Diploma level. The building and construction, primary industries and retail sectors were the other main beneficiaries of the program.
Information on the qualifications funded and the RTOs offering the training will be available shortly on the Department for Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST) website.
The next round of funding for the Productivity Places Program for Existing Workers will commence after July 2009. Further information can be obtained from the DFEEST website or by contacting the Skills Board.

Working with the new Community Services Training Package CHC08 30 June 2009
To help demystify the changes to the Community Services Training Package CHC08 the SAHCSSB is holding a seminar on 30 June 2009.
Open to all industry stakeholders who have a connection with the Training Package, the seminar will outline the recent changes to the Package and how they will impact on your organisation. There will also be an opportunity to hear representatives from Leveda, Life Care, Anglicare-SA and Community and Neighbourhood Houses and Centres relate how they use the Training Package and you will have the chance to put your questions to them.

National Quality Council Newsletter
The National Quality Council, which oversees the quality of vocational education and training in Australia, has produced its first newsletter for 2009, outlining its priorities for this year. These include work in the areas of consistency, the quality of assessment and skills for sustainability.

Relationship between VET and higher education
Two recent publications from NCVER explore the connections between the higher education and VET sectors.
Reflections on the tertiary education sector in Australia, a paper by Tom Karmel, discusses a number of aspects of the relationship, including the movement of students between sectors.
Higher Education in TAFE is an issues paper on the provision of higher education awards within TAFE institutes, in the context of the changing interface between higher education and VET and the implication of the Bradley Review of Higher Education.
