Aged & Community Services SA&NT Inc launch Workforce Development Resources
Aged & Community Services SA & NT Inc (ACS SA&NT) recently launched two exciting new workforce development resources.
The first, for employers in aged and community care, is a series of information sheets designed to give an overview of some of the initiatives organisations have implemented with regard to attraction and retention of staff. The second, aimed at employees and potential employees, gives a wide range of information about employment opportunities, career pathways, training and volunteer positions available within the aged and community care sector.
Both resources will be available to download soon from the ACS website.

Review of TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in the TAA Training Package
Innovation and Business Skills Australia is currently reviewing the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification in the TAA Training Package. A revised model of the qualification has been prepared and the project is now in the consultation stage with capital city workshops and an on-line forum being held in May. Basic Home Fire Safety in the Community Services Training Package CHC08
Basic home fire safety information has now been included in 9 separate units of competency in the new CHC08 Community Services Training Package. The 9 units are part of the core and/or elective options for 49 qualifications and two Skill Sets. Basic home fire safety support materials will be managed and developed centrally for use in each state and territory. This will ensure the information provided is nationally consistent and in line with current fire service policy and practice.
It is anticipated that this information will be available in the first week of July at no cost via download from fire services websites in each state and territory.

The peak state awards for vocational education and training (VET), hosted by the Training and Skills Commission, recognise innovation and excellence in the training sector.

Community Services & Health Industry Skills Council 2009 National Accolades for Excellence
The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (CH&H ISC) is pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural CS&H ISC 2009 National Accolades for Excellence.
With the CS&H ISC's vision to promote a competent workforce that is able to meet the needs of Australia's population, these Accolades are a way of celebrating the achievements and providing much-deserved recognition of community services and health organisations and our workforce.
The Accolades provide an avenue to showcase, acknowledge and applaud best practice workforce and skills development within nine categories, including categories for Registered Training Organisations.

Health Workforce Competency Principles - A Victorian discussion papar
In 2009, the National Health Workforce Taskforce (NHWT) will progress work to determine the suitability and applicability of a national competency framework for the health workforce. The Victorian Department of Human Services has produced a discussion paper to generate debate: Health Workforce Competency Principals - a Victorian discussion paper. The paper broadly explores ideas around shared competencies.

Governance Arrangements for the National Training System
Skills Australia has released for consultation a paper about future governance arrangements for the national training system. Amongst other things it proposes establishment of an independent national VET regulartory body, a more coordinated approach to industry leadership in VET and a 'phased' approach to greater regularory coordination across tertiary education. NCVER VET Graduate Outcomes
Information on employment outcomes for vocational educaton and training (VET) graduates in specified fields can now be accessed by using a new interactive online resource developed by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) and based on an annual survey of student outcomes.
