Productivity Places Program

Under the Skilling Australia for the Future initiative the federal government has established the Productivity Places Program to increase the skill levels of Job Seekers and Existing Workers.

 

A new Enterprise Based Productivity Places Program (EBPPP) is being managed nationally through Industry Skills Councils. If you missed out on funding in the recent South Australian round for Existing Workers, you may be particularly interested in this program. Contact Community Services & Health Industry Skills Council for more information. 

 

The next round of funding for both the South Australian Job Seekers and Existing Workers programs is likely to be in the first half of 2010.

 

Under the August 2009 funding round of the South Australian Existing Workers program 793 training places were allocated to health and community services organisations, making up 21% of the total places allocated.

Labour Market Information

The Department of Further Education, Science and Technology has released its latest labour market overview for South Australia.  Based on ABS data it indicates that, averaged over the year to August 2009, health care and social assistance had the largest employment share in the state - 13% compared with 10.9 nationally.  In the five years to August 2009 employment in health and community services grew by 20% - an increase of 17,600 workers.

Health Workforce Australia to be based in Adelaide

The new national health workforce body - Health Workforce Australia - will be based in Adelaide.

The decision to bring the agency to Adelaide was made at the national meeting of Health Ministers in Canberra on Friday 4 September and it is estimated that around 100 jobs will be created.

Health Workforce Australia will plan, coordinate and fund clinical training across all disciplines on behalf of the Commonwealth, State and Territories, coordinating international recruitment, scholarships, rural medical training and the use of overseas graduates.

SA Training Awards 2009

The SA Health & Community Services Skills Board would like to congratulate the winners and finalists of this year's South Australian Training Awards

The health and community services sector was well represented at the awards, which were held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 4 September 2009, and further congratulations go to the winners from our sectors

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year award went to Nat Loadsman, who is employed at Metropolitan Aboriginal Youth and Family Services.  Nat completed a Diploma in Statutory Child Protection at the Dept for Families and Community Services - College for Learning and Development.

Jason Bromley. from Guaranda Services Pty Ltd, was the recipient of the Business SA Vocational Student of the Year award.  Jason completed an Advance Diploma in Community Services Management at TafeSA Regional.

Congratulations also to the other finalists from our sector, Benjamin Stewart, Alarni Nunn, Littlehampton Child Care Centre and DFC - College for Learning and Development.
